Have you ever woken up to the sound of music playing from a faraway speaker? Have you ever blasted to ‘Mitwa’ in your almost worn out headphones at a 100? Have you ever cursed your memory for having forgotten the lyrics to a tune that got stuck in your mind? Have you ever listened to Billie Jean, scoffed at it in front of your friends but secretly admired it and listened to it every day since then? Have you ever sat down and listened to all the songs Charlie Klemeckis put in his mixtape for Sam? Have you ever been called to the dean’s office for having sung “What makes you beautiful” in class? Probably not.
See, music is a world within itself; a twisted, bended infinity. It's a language, every man and woman from every nick and corner of the globe can understand. Everyone has their own stories and “called to the dean” moments that connect to music. Like John Green once said, some infinities are bigger than others, so it doesn't matter if you're a die hard Swiftie, a forever directioner or a Juice WRLD stan, music has directly and indirectly influenced you..more than you will ever know.
Music reminds you of your late friend; but not in a sad way, it makes you think of all the fun things you did together, all the hundred sleepovers and Snapchat streaks. Music reminds you of all the books you've read and all the places you've been to. Music makes you think about memories, memories you made with the most memorable people in the most memorable places. It's actually really weird if you think about it. Matching the perfect rhythm and pitch with the perfect lyrics and the perfect tone, everything has to be so perfect and intertwined to form the perfect word; music. It makes you laugh, cry, love, think, think about people who you know you’re not supposed to think of. Music unites us, enlightens us, relieves us, entertains us, believes in us, reminds us, connects us, defines us.
This week, we have with us a woman who never dared to stop hoping or dreaming. She showed us that no matter the obstacle, you will always find your path with the right mindset. Singer, song-writer; Mallika Mehta, here to embark us on her musical journey!
